While teeth extractions are the most common oral surgery, there a wide variety of dental conditions that require surgery. Our expertise includes many of these procedures including:

Bone Grafting: When planning for dental implants, we sometimes find that the jawbone has deteriorated due to tooth loss. In these cases, the bone will not be strong enough to support an implant, and we will usually recommend a bone graft. During this minimally invasive procedure, bone grafting material is placed in your jaw and becomes a “biological placeholder.” Over time, your body will come to recognize the graft as your own bone. Eventually, the graft is resorbed and replaced with natural bone. Once this process is complete, the bone can normally support a dental implant.

Cavitation Surgery: A cavitation is a hole in the bone where a tooth has been extracted, and the bone has not healed in properly. This is known as an area of osteonecrosis (dead bone). Inside a cavitation, bacteria can flourish creating a breeding ground for toxins. The only effective treatment for a cavitation is surgical removal. This surgery involves making an incision in the gum to expose the defect and scraping the area clean. Packing material may be placed in the wound, and then it is sutured.
