When it comes to oral diseases, no one is excused, even children can be affected. The best way to ensure the health of the mouth, teeth, and gums is to give the proper care that they deserve.
At Crown Dental Care, we believe that prevention is always better than cure, that is why we would like to focus more on the prevention rather than the treatment itself. Along with our Preventive Dentistry are services which include routine cleanings and exams, low-radiation digital x-rays, dental sealants, fluoride treatments, mouth guards, and oral-cancer screening to ensure the disease-free mouth of our patients.
Nevertheless, another great way to prevent harmful bacterias, the main cause of numerous oral problems, is to perform proper oral hygiene at home. Flossing and brushing are two essential routines to keep the teeth and gums healthy. Unfortunately, not everyone observes these practices in a right way, leaving the mouth more prone to infection rather than thoroughly cleaning it. To teach our patients the proper techniques, we have prepared some helpful points and tips for them.
Preparation
Start by assembling all the dental care essentials needed which include a handy toothbrush with soft and rounded bristles, fluoridated toothpaste, a glass of water for rinsing, floss of any type. Remember to replace the toothbrush every three to four months or once the bristles are already frayed.
Steps for Better Brushing
Here are the steps to follow to eliminate stubborn food particles and plaques on the teeth accurately:
- Angle the toothbrush 45 degrees to the gum line.
- Without squishing the bristles, place it against the gums and teeth.
- Start brushing in a circular motion, covering all the inner and outer surfaces of the tooth and the gumline.
- Include the chewing surfaces as food debris are mainly sticking on those particular areas.
- Tilt the brush vertically to clean the inside of the front teeth.
- Do not forget to reach every tooth by moving the brush frequently for two minutes time.
- Finally, scrape off bacterias in your tongue.
Steps for Fabulous Flossing
Flossing must be done to secure that there are no leftover foods in between the spaces of the teeth. To do this effectively, here are the steps:
- Cut an 18” thread floss. Secure it around the middle finger and with the other hand.
- Hold the string of floss tightly and glide in between the tooth in a gentle sawing manner.
- Once it reaches the gum line, curve the floss against the tooth.
- Scrape the side of the tooth with the use of the same floss. Repeat the process on the other teeth.
After the process, rinse the mouth with plain water to remove loosened plaques and particles. Brushing and flossing must be performed daily and to get the most out of it, observe how it is done correctly.
